a good roasting!

With today being quite the dreary Sunday [both because it’s the day before the beginning of the week and also because it was gray outside], I decided to do as much cozying up as possible… couch, wine and movie]. To accomplish this feat, a simple roast chicken dinner seemed the easiest thing to come out of the kitchen!
Seasoned with some olive oil, freshly squeezed lemon juice and herbs de provence… this meaty bird was nestled into the oven for an hour and half to get its tan. During the last thirty minutes of cooking, our fragrant meal was treated to a splash of white wine to elevate the already flavorful treat! Once finished cooking, the chicken rested for a few minutes before getting plated and filling our bellies with satisfying warmth…
Till our next dining experience!

blond[ies] have more fun!

So I had a blond[ie] moment today… that sweet craving that can’t be satisfied by just any old treat!
After chopping up some semisweet and milk chocolates, they were gently mixed into a creamy, buttery mixture made up of white and brown sugars, butter, flour, baking soda, homemade vanilla, eggs and salt.
Once spread into a greased and floured baking dish, it was off for a nice half hour bake. After cooked through, the blondies were set aside to cool entirely and then cut into sizeable cake-like treats!
Served with an ice cold glass of almond milk, these heavenly [yet sinful] delights didn’t stand a chance!

the crowning glory…

Like a kid in a candy store, I anxiously awaited for the postman to arrive with that brown boxy item… once the box arrived I tore straight into it and from it emerged my version of the bible… my newest cookbook… ‘bread’ from the master Paul Hollywood!
Thumbing through the glossy, picture laden book was painful, as I wanted to make every single recipe listed, but I was on a mission for one perfect puffy, stuffed and twisted doughy element of perfection… The ‘savoury brioche couronne’.
As soon as I knew what ingredients I was missing, it was off to the market to gather them up and then back home to start off baking… This was such an incredible treat to make, although like most breads… time consuming!
It began with the combining of flour, yeast, salt, milk, eggs and butter… After this all was incorporated, the dough was set aside for it’s first rise. Next the dough was rolled out to a rectangle and topped off with salty, thinly sliced prosciutto, torn mozz and julienned basil! Rolled tightly together into a large cylindrical shape, the dough was then sliced down the center and then twisted together and wrapped into a circle.
As soon as this was done, it was bagged up and off for its second slumber to rise again…
Once the dough was puffy and ready for its tan, it was glazed with an egg wash and some grated pecorino. Into the oven for thirty-five minutes until swollen and golden!
The scent flooded the air as the couronne baked away, but as for the taste… well there are so many words to describe, but I prefer divine…

naughty and nice…

I can hear the sleigh bells in the distance and see the occasional mistletoe overhead… So I decided it’s the perfect time to make little treat bags to hand out to all our favorite friends.
These treat bags include homemade spicy, chocolatey brownies decorated two ways… one drizzled with white chocolate + sprinkles and the other… simply coated in a white dusting of powdered sugar snow.
In addition to the brownies, linzer tarts filled with raspberry jam in the shape of snow flakes. To finish off these little dreamy cookies, some powdered sugar to dress it for the occasion.
Once everything was bagged up, it was time to write out the name tags, seal off the bags and deliver! Now it’s time to fill the sleigh [ok ok SUV] and make deliveries in the AM…

dining for a cause…

Tonight we’re off to a benefit in honor of our furry little friends… it’s destined to be a fun-filled night thanks to a slew of comedians, endless flowing drinks, as well as what is anticipated to be an array of scrumptious edibles!
Since Halloween unfortunately was cancelled this year due to the weather occurrence in our area, we also decided to donate all of the treats we had originally bought for the little trick or treaters, instead to this event…
Hopefully this evening will get some much needed help out to these poor little animals and who knows perhaps a home!!

nothing wrong with being [or in this case eating] a tart!

Sometimes a sweet treat is in order… what better way to satisfy than with a decadent french chocolate tart dressed with shelled pistachios!
The buttery pastry shell was flakey and light, the dark chocolate slightly sweet and creamy, while the pistachios offset everything with a nice saltiness…
This was truly one of the best desserts I have had in quite sometime… hmmmm perhaps I should start having desserts more often…

S’more please…

Tonight I felt like a sweet treat after dinner. Not something I normally delve into, but then again it is a holiday weekend right??
So I thought a classic campfire favorite would be the perfect way to satiate that craving! Behold… the first s’more of the season! This go-round though, rather than standing over an open fire I whipped out my trusty kitchen blowtorch [I know I say that like it’s a kitchen aid mixer] and created a soft, warm and gooey treat! Next time will be my ‘adult’ s’mores that are always a crowd pleaser!
