a hot pot I can warm up to!

After a day of Halloween preparation, whipping up dinner was just not in the cards… instead a serious craving for sushi was!
So we pulled a nice bottle of wine out of our wine fridge, hopped in our car and off we went!
Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by a hostess and whisked to our seats… The decor was modern and very enticing. One if the most unique elements that we noticed was a conveyor belt of sorts which trailed sampler sizes of sushi, sashimi and other appetizing little pleasures! You picked what intrigued you and paid based on the plate design…
Tonight instead of selecting from the belt, we ordered some well known appetizers [Negimaki and Harumaki], along with some sushi. In addition, we tried a ‘hot bowl’ as a main as well!
This ‘hot bowl’ was absolutely mind-blowing… seasoned rice on the bottom layered with a sliced breaded pork cutlet, topped off with a raw egg which cooks from the heat of this ‘hot bowl’… this was like nothing I have ever experienced, but have to say may have quickly become one of my new favorites!
It’s been a while since we’ve ventured out for sushi, but this may have been the night that changed it all again…

gettin’ our roll on!

Tonight is boys night out with the b-in-law… Drinks [lots and lots] and Japanese, while our better- halves make magazine magic! It’s the perfect way to spend an evening. Looking forward to some incredible sushi, as well as other great grub and much needed ‘boy talk’ [hey if girls can do it so can we]!

rolling with the ‘flava’…

After a long day of prepping our yard for the upcoming summer season it was decision time for dinner. It was actually tougher than expected! We decided on the city, but quickly changed our minds since the rumbles in our belly would not wait until 8:30 on this warm and romantic night.
Light and flavorful was what we yearned for, and what better choice then sushi! A few selections from the vast menu and we were off… Crispy lobster rolls, crabmeat and avocado rolls, you name it… we tried it [and enjoyed them]!

impromptu chopstick lunch

I just love an impromptu lunch, especially one that entails the use of chopsticks! Tried out a sushi place that used to strictly offer Chinese food. They underwent a ‘reno’ a few months ago and what a fantastic job they did… which definitely was a reflection in their product as well! Now they offer a fusion-style menu with old classics as well.
We all started out with sharing an appetizer and then onto sushi. I am a huge fan of anything tempura and am a firm believer that if you can impress me with a shrimp tempura and sweet potato sushi roll… well then you have my business! That’s just what happened. The rolls were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The shrimp tempura roll had cucumber and avocado, while the sweet potato roll was just a lovely sweet potato cooked perfectly. There isn’t much that needs to be done to make a great piece of sushi [other than supreme freshness] and this place has mastered perfection!

Part one of my Asian-themed foodie day!

What a wonderful afternoon lunch I just had! Ventured out to a new place in the neighborhood to experience their sushi. Once walking through the dramatic doorway, I was transported to a modern and intimate setting. Dark luxurious woods, comfortable seating, a lengthy sushi bar [perfect for a quick bite] and best of all, an attentive waitstaff!
For lunch, I tried the shrimp tempura roll and a sweet potato roll. All I can say is WOW! Both full of flavor and crisp from the tempura, lightly dressed with a chefs made special sauce. The shrimp roll was rolled with lettuce and cucumber, while the sweet potato was perfect just on its own. I also was lucky enough to try the sesame chicken [which I was actually planning on preparing for dinner] with the brown rice that they offer, and that was a star as well!
This lunch was a fantastic element to my day and will definitely be visiting again very soon for dinner, but as always the company is what makes a meal!

Always dreaming about… dinner

So on this windy and cold Saturday, my mind wanders… I revel in the idea of what exactly I will be ordering this evening. Will I be daring and try a different type of sushi, or perhaps a non-traditional preparation of chicken [but mouthwatering and delicious nonetheless]… Time will only tell!
For now though, I’m debating if tomorrow’s meal will be something hearty [like a braised short rib] or delicate and easy to prepare [a pasta dish that is full of flavor].
Once I see what the butcher has to offer, a decision will be made! If short ribs are meant to be, then cooking will ensue early in the day tomorrow, otherwise there are other Sundays [heck even weeknights] that this meal can make a presence…
Either dish that is made, I have some wonderful wines that can accompany!
Stay tuned…
