Summer Sunday supper!!

With Sunday supper on my mind, and finally some sunny [yet über humid] weather upon us I felt the need to marinate some sexy flank steak and then toss onto the grill! To serve up alongside, a beautiful tossed salad with a homemade balsamic dressing and some beautiful grilled asparagus.
The salad was just a mix of crisp romaine, sliced roasted red peppers, a diced shallot and homemade stuffed mozz! As for the asparagus, just a toss in some homemade infused olive oil and salt.
Once grilled and rested, the steak and sides were ready to eat up and enjoy… thrilled that there is a bit of leftovers for some lunch tomorrow!!

Some people ‘plank’, I prefer flank…

Tonight for dinner, I decided a little rain wouldn’t dampen my culinary adventure! I was in the mood for a nice flavorful piece of meat… So I marinated a flank steak in soy sauce, sesame oil, scallion and some additional flavor bumps! On the grill for eight minutes and it was perfect. Succulent and full of punch!
As a side, I thought it would be great to go out of the box… I sliced up fresh watermelon and tossed it with sliced scallions [stuck with the marinade theme], feta cheese and drizzled with a great finishing oil to pull everything together! The watermelon was sweet and juicy, the feta perfectly briny, while the scallion offered just enough bite and drove everything home…
Boy I’m stuffed!!

Closing time…

Another outrageous evening for dinner! We closed that joint down… LITERALLY! Time really does fly when you are chatting away and enjoying yourself.
As an appetizer, we did a family-style setup. Fried calamari tossed in a balsamic glaze [AMAZING], sautéed shrimp in a spicy lemon butter sauce, as well as a hearty vibrant arugula salad with pears, Parmesan shavings and candied pecans! All delicious and different in their own special ways.
As mains; a spicy chicken arabiata with hot peppers in their vinegary goodness, grilled flank steak topped with shrimp, grilled sea bass and an always classic chicken marsala! Everything was delicious as our table went quiet as we savored each luscious bite…
For dessert… we all shared a peanut butter tartufo. One word… DIVINE! Silky and smooth, creamy and a slight bit salty. I need another right about now! Well maybe I can try and make one soon… hmmmm

no rubbin’ my meat tonight… just a great marinade!

A marinated flank steak and sautéed broccoli rabe… it’s what was for dinner!
The flank was marinated in an Asian marinade [soy, olive oil, scallions, crushed red pepper and some delightfully delicious flavor secrets]. Tossed on the grill for roughly ten minutes and perfectly done. Juicy, tender and moist! Pink and cool in the center and dripping with flavor.
For the broccoli rabe… olive oil, garlic and salt. Since we all know that broccoli rabe can be bitter [just like me], plenty of kosher salt was added to both the boiling water and shocking liquid situation to take out some of the bitterness. Once cooled, the vibrant green was sautéed with some olive oil, lots of chopped garlic and some crushed red pepper…
The meatiness of the flank contrasting the garlicky and oily delight of the broccoli rabe were a match made in… the kitchen!
